Newman Harp
Newman Morton Harp of De Queen died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016 in Texarkana, Tex.
He was born to Opal and Russell Harp in Lubbock, Tex., Nov. 14, 1936.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served as a mechanical engineer in the United States Army.
He retired from Tyson Foods after 24 years of employment. He was a Baptist.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 14 at Lone Oak Baptist Church, Horatio, with Rev. Randy Davis officiating.

Bartie Pate
Bartie Thomas Pate, 92, of Fort Smith, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2017 in Fort Smith.
He was born on Jan. 14, 1924 in Athens to Alic and Minnie Tallent Pate.
He joined the Army in 1942 and retired in 1965.
Funeral services were held Jan. 7 at the Free Holiness Church in Athens with Tracy Welch and Shane Pair officiating. Burial followed in Athens Cemetery.

Mrs. Maria Lerma
Mrs. Maria Felipa Salinas Lerma, 67, of Indianapolis, Ind. and formerly of De Queen, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2016 in Indianapolis.
She was born to Nemesio Salinas and Telesfora Ojeda Salinas on May 26, 1949 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. She was a retired employee of Pilgrim’s Pride, and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Funeral services were held Jan. 7 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, De Queen. Burial followed in Redmen Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnnie Miller
Mrs. Johnnie Dean Johnson Miller, 69, of Texarkana, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 at her home.
She was born to J. D. and Angis Mefford Johnson in Dustin, Okla., on June 30, 1947. She was a nail tech as well as a homemaker. She was an active member of the Texarkana, Tex., Highland Park Baptist Church where she cooked on Wednesday evening.
Funeral services were held Jan. 11 at Highland Park Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Myers officiating. Graveside funeral services were held Jan. 11 in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, De Queen.

Tom Stancil
Lynn Thomas Stancil, 65, of Texarkana, Tex., died Dec. 9, 2016 in the V.A. Hospital in Dallas, Tex.
He was born to Emmett and Martha Escue Stancil on June 30, 1951 in Goodlettsville, Tenn. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was a retired truck driver and a Christian.
His remains were donated to medical science.

Mr. Billy Ray Lacefield
Mr. Billy Ray Lacefield, 76, of De Queen, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016 in De Queen.
He was born Sept. 24, 1940 in Foreman. He was a heavy equipment operator and attended Friendship Baptist Church in De Queen.
Funeral services were held Dec. 31 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Roy Conatser and Bro. George Frachiseur officiating. Burial followed in Redmen Cemetery.

Mrs. Dora Mae McNeal Williams
Mrs. Dora Mae McNeal Williams, 77, of Eagletown, Okla., died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2016 in Texarkana, Tex.
Mrs. Williams was born in Pleasant Hill, Okla., on Jan. 11, 1939 to Earl Lester and Mary Jane McNeal.
She worked as a machine operator at Rubber Corporation of De Queen and as an assembler at Husqvarna Outdoor Products in De Queen.
Funeral services for Mrs. Williams were held Jan. 1, 2017 at Eagletown Assembly of God Church with Bro. Melvin Baker and Jon Hollinghead officiating. Burial followed at Eagletown Cemetery.

Mrs. Ethel Shuffield
Mrs. Ethel Noey Norman Shuffield, 88, of Mesquite, Tex., formerly of Ben Lomond, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2016 in Mesquite.
She was born to Chess Murphy and Minera Fadelia Noe Noey on June 30, 1928. She was a member of the Ben Lomond Baptist Church.

Mr. Freeman Higgins
Mr. Freeman Dewayne Higgins, 80, of De Queen, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016 in Ashdown.
He was born June 26, 1936 in Gillham. He was an USDA inspector, a production supervisor at Pilgrim's Pride, and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was also a part time ranger at Dierks Lake for the Corps of Engineers.

Geraldine Green Vann, 85, of Gillham, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016 in her home.
She was born Saturday, Oct. 3, 1931 at Cross Roads to Arthur A. Green and Ione (Wright) Green at home.
She was a member and a children’s Bible class teacher of the Church of Christ as well as a member of the Arkansas Extension Homemakers Council of Sevier County.
Funeral services for Mrs. Vann were held Dec. 30 at the Church of Christ in Wickes with David Jacobs and Dudley Vann officiating. Burial followed in the Gillham Cemetery.

Mr. Jimmy Lynn Faulkner, 67, of Dierks, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016 in Texarkana, Texas.
He was born Sept. 25, 1949. He was the owner of Napa Auto in Dierks and a member of the Umpire Community Church.
Funeral services were held Jan. 3, 2017 in the Umpire Community Church with John Henry Williams and Jerry Mounts officiating. Burial followed in the Bethel Cemetery in Umpire.

Mrs. Marjorie Helen Pell
Mrs. Marjorie Helen Steadman Pell, 97, of De Queen, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016 in De Queen Medical Center.
She was born to Sidney Harrison “Harry” and Jean Ellsworth Steadman in North East, Pennsylvania, on May 19, 1919.
She was a supervisor for the Department of Social Services in Los Angeles, Calif., for 15 years. She was the retired owner of Pell’s Trailer Park as well as a homemaker.
She was a member of the Ripley Methodist Church in Ripley, NY., and First United Methodist Church of De Queen. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary for 45 years, a member of the AARP, Woodman of the World, board member of the Salvation Army, and the Gillham Extension Club.
Funeral services were held Jan. 3, 2017 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bearl Lake Cemetery, Bear Lake, Pa..

Mr. Merle Chewning
Mr. Merle A. Chewning, 76, of Winthrop, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016 in Little Rock.
He was born Jan. 27, 1940 in De Kalb, Tex.
He was retired from the paper mill after working for 33 years. He was a member of the Winthrop Baptist Church.

Mrs. Phylis Jean White Esch, 85, of Ashdown, formerly of Lockesburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016 at her home.
She was born in Michigan on Sept. 24, 1931. She was retired from Pilgrim’s Pride as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Old Time Baptist Church in Lockesburg.

Darrell Chandler
Mr. James Darrell Chandler, 66, of Horatio died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, at his home.
He was born to James B. and Thelma Lawley Chandler in Sentinel, Okla., Jan. 6, 1950. He worked for Weyerhaeuser for a total of 44 years, both at the Treating
Plant and on the D.&E.T.O.&E railroad.
He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in De Queen, where he served as a deacon and usher.
Funeral services were held Dec. 24 in First Assembly God Church with Bro. Kent Irvan and Pastor Ray Reynolds officiating. Burial followed in the Old Center Cemetery, Horatio, with Doug Akin officiating.

Mrs. Evelyn Bearden
Mrs. Evelyn Juanita Bearden, 71, of Dierks died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016 at her home.
She was born April 29, 1945 in Umpire. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Dierks.

Mr. Gene E. Leathers, Jr., 53, of Lockesburg died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, in Christus St. Michael Heath System in Texarkana, Texas.
He was born May 22, 1963, in De Queen. He was in the National Guard, a welder and a Baptist.
Graveside funeral services were held Dec. 24 at Wrights Chapel Cemetery with Buster Dellinger officiating.

Harold Ray Dale
Mr. Harold Ray Dale, of De Queen, passed away Dec. 20, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla. He was born Feb. 9, 1932 the son of F. M. and Annie (Davis) Dale in Broken Bow, Okla.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you please take someone out for lunch.
A celebration of life service was held Dec. 30 at Brumley Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Watkins officiating, followed by interment at Broken Bow Cemetery.

Mary Wagner
Mrs. Mary Wagner, 66 of Winnsboro, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016.
She was born on April 20, 1950 in Detroit, Mich., to the late Edwin Phenix Anglin and Mary Savich Anglin.
Graveside services were held on Friday, Dec. 23, at Clear Creek Cemetery in Horatio with Mr. Joey Brewer conducting.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Clear Creek Cemetery Fund in C/O Horatio State Bank, P.O. Box 347, Horatio, Ar 71842.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Viet Nam War. He was a retired engineer for the D&E.T.O.&E Railroad, and was an active member of Kern Heights Baptist Church. He was a Sevier County Library Board Member, president of the Mt. Ida Cemetery Board, and a Gideon.

Mrs. Jenny Henry Garrison, 56, of Dierks, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016.
She was born on Feb. 2, 1960, in Nashville, the daughter of Preston Thomas Henry and Betty Jean Welch Henry.
She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church and a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a degree in Public Administration.
Services were held Dec. 18 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood.
Interment will be in the Mount Joy Cemetery.

Mrs. Paula Morris
Mrs. Paula Kay Morris, 44 of Horatio, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, at her home. She was born to Ron and Phyllis Ellsworth Mills in Oklahoma City, Okla., on June 29, 1972.
She was a LPN, and worked for the Health Department, seven years in Postal Service, 16 years at Poulan as well as a rancher. She was a member of the Horatio Church of Christ, and a First Responder for Central Fire Department.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 23 in the Chandler Funeral Chapel with Bobby Tatum officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 22 at Chandler Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Paula Morris Memorial Scholarship, c/o First State Bank, De Queen.

Mrs. Barbra Ann Power Neal Johnson, 77, of Dierks, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016 at the home of her sister in De Queen.
She was born to Hayden Cortez and Jewel Atrell Teague Power in Calico Rock on July 15, 1939. She was retired from the medical field, where she worked as a clerical accountant. She was also a homemaker and a member of the Antioch Baptist Church of Nashville.
