SCDC spaghetti fundraiser April 27

Sevier County Developmental Center’s annual spaghetti fundraiser will be held Friday, April 27 from 4:30 until 8 p.m. For lunch deliveries or takeout call 870-642-8225 before 10 a.m. Tickets are $7.50 for adults and $5 for children and are now on sale.

 

Pie and baked goods auction

A pie and baked goods auction will be held Friday, April 27 beginning at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the Grannis Baptist Church. All proceeds will go to the Grannis Cemetery Fund toward the upkeep of the Cemetery and costs associated with the annual Homecoming. 

If you cannot attend the auction and wish to send a donation, checks may be mailed to Grannis Cemetery Association, c/o Angela Thomas, 404 Frachiseur Road, Grannis, AR  71944.

 

Lockesburg VFD fish fry is Saturday, April 28

Lockesburg Fire Department will have their annual fundraising fish fry Saturday, April 28 with serving to begin at 5 p.m. at the fire department. The meal will consist of fish, French fries, homemade hushpuppies, coleslaw and tea. An auction will be held and entertainment will be provided by Saline River Revue members, J.J. Jester, Freddie Horne, Claudine Tompkins and Wendell Randall. Memberships will be available at the fundraiser or at city hall.

 

Reception to honor Joan Moore April 28

A retirement reception will be held for Joan Moore Saturday, April 28 from 3-6 p.m. at the Horatio Library, 108 W. Main St. in Horatio. Moore has been employed at the library for the past 20 years.

 

Winthrop VFD will hold fundraiser on Saturday, April 28

The Winthrop Volunteer Fire Department’s annual fundraiser will be held Saturday, April 28 at 5 p.m. at the Winthrop Elementary Cafeteria.

Menu will consist of smoked chicken, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, cole slaw, dessert, tea and lemonade. Cost will be $7 for adults and $3.50 for children ten and under. A silent auction will be held for baked goods and other items.

Air Evac 73 will be participating if available and state and local candidates are invited to speak. All proceeds go toward building improvements, equipment and training.

 

SDA fund-raising yard sale is April 29

The Seventh Day Adventist social committee fund-raising yard sale will be held Sunday, April 29 starting at 8 a.m. at the Beacon Hill School gym. The church is located on 1446 Red Bridge Road in De Queen. Booth space is available. For more information call 870-784-0504.

 

Festival in the Saint Barbara Church to be Sunday, April 29

Festival in the Saint Barbara Catholic Church will be held Sunday, April 29 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Along with food, free services offered will include glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index checks and HIV education for the prevention of diseases. There will be information about programs on breast care and other programs. For more information call 870-642-2256.

 

Pauley Cemetery clean-up

There will be a clean-up day Saturday, May 5 at the Pauley Cemetery. Work is to begin at 9 a.m. with a rain date of May 12. Donations for cemetery up-keep can be sent to Horatio State Bank, P.O. Box 347, Horatio, AR 71842.

 

Lighthouse Church yard sale is May 5

Lighthouse Church youth group will have a community yard sale Saturday, May 5 beginning at 9 a.m. at the church in Lockesburg to raise funds to attend the annual youth conference. To reserve space, or donate to the sale, call 870-584-9955; 870-925-0633; 870-784-1974 or 870-784-1986.

 

50th Annual Grannis Homecoming

The 50th Annual Grannis Homecoming and Decoration will be held Sunday, May 6 at the Grannis City park. The community building will be set up for pot-luck style dining, but you are encouraged to bring your lawn chairs for dining in the park. Lunch will begin at 1 p.m. to allow travel time for those attending church services that morning.

A short business meeting will be held beginning at 1:45 p.m. while musicians are setting up. Special and congregation singing will be held from 2-4 p.m. with drawings for door prizes. Anyone who wants to share their talent may bring their instruments or accompaniment tapes.

 

Youth group to host Mother’s Day banquet

A Mother’s Day banquet, hosted by Lighthouse Church youth group, will be held Saturday, May 12 at 5 p.m. at the church in Lockesburg.

The menu will consist of grilled chicken, beans, potato salad, roll or mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, roll. Dessert will be banana pudding. Cost is $5 per plate. Seating is limited. Spay/neuter clinic scheduled for May

The Humane Society of Sevier County will have its spay/neuter clinic May 7, 8 and 9. Cost is dogs $65 and cats $40. This includes the rabies vaccine. You must call 870-584-9096 for appointment. No walk-ins.

 

May blood drives

LifeShare Blood Center has the following community blood drives in May:

May 7, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at De Queen High School, 1803 West Coulter Drive, De Queen, AR.

May 30, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Pilgrim’s Pride, 401 South 3rd Street, DeQueen, AR.
