LifeShare Blood Center has the following community blood drives scheduled for February 2019:

Feb. 7, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at UA Cossatot, 183 Highway 399, De Queen.

Feb. 7, 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Dierks Community, 102 W. 2nd Street, Dierks.

Feb. 11, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Pilgrim’s Pride, 401 S. 3rd Street, De Queen.

Feb. 20, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Tyson’s Grannis, 8489 Highway 71, Grannis.

Feb. 25, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at De Queen Medical Center, 1306 Collin Raye Drive, De Queen.

Feb. 25, 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Walmart, 926 East Collin Raye Drive, De Queen,.

QC budget committee to meet Thursday

The Sevier County Quorum Court Budget Committee will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019. This meeting will be held at the Sevier County Courthouse and is open to the public.

 

Westerman to be at courthouse Feb. 21

U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman will conduct his mobile office Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Sevier County Courthouse, 115 N. Third Street in De Queen, between 11 a.m. and 12 noon. No appointment is necessary.

 

Election commission to certify candidates

There will be a meeting of the Sevier County Election Commission Friday, Feb. 21, 2019 at 1 p.m. to certify the candidates for the May 21, 2019 school elections. This meeting will be in the Sevier County Courthouse, County Clerk’s office. Other items pertaining to the 2019 school election may be discussed as necessary. This meeting is open to the public.

 

Border Lows camp out

The “Border Lows” a chapter of “Loners on Wheels” will have their monthly camp out Feb. 6-10 at Texarkana RV Park, 5000 U.S. Hwy. 59 in Texarkana, Texas. Gillham EHC to meet

The Gillham Extension Homemakers meeting for February is Friday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. in the home of Judy Vann-Hamilton, 288 Tower Road in Gillham.

Library System Board meeting

Tri-County Regional Library System Board of Trustees will meet for their quarterly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 5 p.m. at the Sevier County Library- De Queen Branch.

 

Miss DHS pageant to be held Feb. 9

The Miss De Queen High School pageant featuring “The World Is Your Runway!” will be held Saturday, Feb. 9 starting at 7 p.m. at the De Queen High School auditorium. Cost of admission is $5. Prior to the pageant there will be a Mini and Little Miss pageant starting at 5:45 p.m. Entry forms will be sent home with De Queen Elementary and Primary School students for the Mini and Little Miss pageant. There is a $25 entry fee for the Mini and Little Miss pageant and deadline to register is Friday, Jan. 18. For more information contact Betty Stone at the high school, 870-642-2426.

 

Yearbook orders

Orders are now being taken for De Queen Middle School and Junior High School yearbooks. Forms may be picked up at the school or orders may be placed online through the school websites. Deadline for ordering is April 1. All yearbooks must be pre-ordered this year. Extra yearbooks will not be available.

 

Row crop meeting to be held February 14

Registration is now underway for the SW AR row crop meeting to be held February 14 at the Barbara Horn Convention Center, UA-Cossatot, in Ashdown. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. and lunch will be provided. Topics to be discussed include soybean updates and pest management, corn updates and pest management and wheat updates and pest management. Pesticide applicator training will begin at 1:30 p.m. and there will be a charge of $20 for those who need a license.

Date set for “Never Give Up” 5K Fun Run

“Never Give Up” 5K Fun Run will be held Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Horatio High School beginning at 9:30 a.m., weather permitting. T-shirts will be available for pick-up on race day by registering before Feb. 8 with entry fee $25. Registration fee between Feb. 9 and race day is $30 and the t-shirts will be mailed. Forms and payments can be returned to the high school or mailed to Never Give Up Race, 470 Randall Road, Horatio, AR 71842.

This year Ainsley’s Angels will be joining the group to bring the joy of completing a race to individuals of all ability levels. Become a CASA  volunteer

At this time a child in foster care needs your help. You will be the person who will listen when no other person can, you will advocate for the best interest of these children in court, at school, and in the community. You will help them find a safe permanent home. You can support a child who has been abused and/or neglected. Become a volunteer with CASA!
