Linda Russell retirement celebration

The De Queen Bee will be holding a retirement party for Linda Russell, who is retiring after 48 years with the Bee. The celebration will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on  July 31 at the Bee office, 404 W. De Queen Ave., De  Queen. 


Holiday closing sannounced by city hall, courthouse

De Queen City Hall and the Sevier County Courthouse have announced closings for the July 4 holiday.

The city trash schedule for the week of July 1 will be as follows:

Monday and Tuesday will remain the same; Thursday will be picked up on Wednesday and Friday will remain the same.

The Sevier County Landfill and Solid Waste Satellite stations will be closed Thursday, July 4, as will the courthouse. Normal hours of operation for the courthouse will resume on Friday, July 5. The solid waste stations will open again at 7 a.m. Saturday, July 6.


Quorum Court to hold special meeting concerning hospital

The Sevier County Quorum Court will hold a special meeting at 2 p.m. on July 1 at the courthouse. On the agenda is a discussion regarding the proforma for a bond issue to construct a new hospital and other matters of interest in the proposed hospital project. The meeting will be held in the Sevier County Courthouse Courtroom on the second floor and is open to the public.


Williamson Community Church’s Bible School 

The Williamson Community Church located at 555 Central Road in Horatio will have its VBS on June 27, 28, and 29 for children ages Pre-K to teens. VBS will be from 6-8:30 p.m. on June 27 and 28. On June 29, VBS will run from 4-7 p.m. with a family program at 7 p.m. followed by refreshments. 


Chemistry Camp

Texas A&M-Texarkana will be hosting its first ever chemistry camp this summer. Camp will be on July 13 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on the Texas A&M-Texarkana campus. Camp is open to seventh, eighth, and ninth grade students. Lunch and snacks will be provided, as well as a camp t-shirt. There will be a $25 charge to attend this event. Registration ends June 30. Horatio council meeting

The city of Horatio will have its regularly scheduled council meeting July 1, at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room of city hall. The public is cordially invited. 


Lockesburg fireworks

On July 4, Lockesburg’s annual fireworks show will take place at the IMCS Park. There will be food vendors and the concession stand is open all day. Entertainment will include crafts, a corn hole tournament, a softball tournament, a water slide, and much more. Marlon Sharp and Cowboys at the Cross will play from 6 p.m. until dark, when the fireworks display starts. For more information, call (870) 289-3261.


Newhope Independence Day celebration

The Newhope annual Independence Day Celebration will be held on Thursday, July 4 at 5 p.m. at the New Hope Volunteer Fire Department

They will have a chicken dinner, an auction and games for the kids. The Wild Card Band will provide entertainment and a fireworks show after dark


AR Youth ChalleNGe

The Arkansas Youth ChalleNGe is still enrolling for Class 53, which starts in July 2019 for students 16-18 years old. Applicants should apply as soon as possible while space is available by visiting the website: or call 501-212-5506.


Become a CASA  volunteer

At this time a child in foster care needs your help. You will be the person who will listen when no other person can, you will advocate for the best interest of these children in court, at school, and in the community. You will help them find a safe permanent home. You can support a child who has been abused and/or neglected. Become a volunteer with CASA!
