Horatio City council calls special meeting

Special city council meeting has been called for the City of Horatio. The meeting will be Friday, Nov. 9 at 8:30 a.m. Purpose is to discuss the budget for the year 2019. The public is invited.


Courthouse, landfill to be closed Nov. 12 for Veterans Day

The Sevier County Courthouse and county landfill will be closed Monday, Nov. 12 in observance of Veterans Day. The courthouse and all solid waste locations will observe regular hours of operation on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The Sevier County Quorum Court meeting, which would normally be held on Monday, Nov. 12, is being postponed to Monday, Nov. 19.


City offices to observe Veterans Day Nov. 12

The City of De Queen will be closed Monday, Nov. 12 in observance of Veterans Day. The trash schedule routes for the week of November 12 will be as follows: Monday on Tuesday, Tuesday on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday will remain the same.


Board of Trustees of Tri-County Library 

System meets Nov. 13

The Board of Trustees of the Tri-County Regional Library System will meet for their quarterly meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. at the Sevier County Library - De Queen location.


DHS invites senior citizens to luncheon, Thursday, Nov. 15

De Queen Public Schools is sponsoring its seventh annual senior citizen Thanksgiving luncheon Thursday, Nov. 15 at 11:30 a.m. at the De Queen Elementary Cafeteria. All senior citizens are welcome to attend.


Development group, County Coalition to discuss possible merger

The newly formed Sevier County Community Development group has invited the Sevier County Coalition to join forces with their Health Committee. Preliminary discussions show a very similar mission, vision and purpose. On Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. both groups will be meeting to discuss details of a potential merger. 'Border Lows' camp out is this weekend

Veterans parade to be held in Texarkana area

UMW annual chili, soup luncheon to held Friday, Nov. 16

The annual chili/soup luncheon, sponsored by the De Queen First United Methodist Women, will be held Friday, Nov. 16 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church. Chili, vegetable or taco soup, with all the trimmings and dessert, will be available for a cost of $5. Delivery or carry-out will be available. Lockesburg Lions seek applications for ‘Angel Tree’

Lockesburg Lions Club is accepting “Angel Tree” applications for Lockesburg area children only, ages 17 and under. Applications can be picked up at Bank of Lockesburg, Lockesburg City Hall, Nadine’s Cafe, Lockesburg Grocery or the  Lockesburg Post Office. Applications should be returned to the Bank of Lockesburg by Friday, Nov. 16, 2018.


5K Walk/Run Dec. 15 to benefit Logan’s Lovies

Logan’s Lovies - 5K Walk/Run will be held Saturday, Dec. 15 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Horatio High School practice gymnasium. The event, sponsored by the Horatio CYCLE Program, is in memory of Logan Winton. T-shirts are $25 and donations of stuffed animals will be accepted and distributed to local first responders such as firefighters, paramedics, police, Air Evac and the local DHS office to provide comfort to children in traumatic or emergency situations. Forms for the race can be picked up at De Queen Health and Wellness Pharmacy or Horatio State Bank.


Sweater drive again sponsored by library

The Sevier County Library System is again participating in the AETN Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Sweater Drive. New or gently worn sweaters can be dropped off at any of the county libraries during the month of November. Donations will benefit 4C Cowboy Church Youth group - C.R.E.W, the county sheriff’s department and the Arkansas Salvation Army. For more information contact any of the libraries or visit


Library system to accept food items for overdue fines during November

Patrons of the Sevier County Library System can forego overdue fines by donating any non-perishable food item to the library for a one dollar reduction in fines. Food will be accepted for fines on returned library materials only, not for replacement fees of lost or damaged items. Please check the expiration date. Items with expired dates will not be accepted. Monetary donations will be accepted during this time.


Sevier County Genealogical Society meeting

The Sevier County Genealogical Society will meet on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. at the Sevier County Museum.

The program will be about letters  a Brownstown soldier and his wife wrote to each other in the Civil War and the affect that war had on the community. The public is invited.

Saint Barbara Church participating in after school food program

Saint Barbara Catholic Church is participating in the after school Child Nutrition Program, part of the Child and Adult Care Food Program, (CACFP).

Starting Tuesday, Oct. 23, they will be providing free snacks to children, ages 18 and under, from 5:30 to 5:50 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 5:40 p.m. until 6 p.m.

This program is for all children under the age of 18 regardless of race, color, national origin, sex or disability and there will be no discrimination in the course of the snack service.


Birth certificate, photo ID now required for marriage license

According to Debbie Akin, Sevier County Clerk, changes have been made in what will be accepted as proof of age for a marriage license. Beginning September 1, 2018 those applying for a marriage license will be required to provide their birth certificate and a photo ID.
