De Queen trash schedule for Veteran’s Day
The city of De Queen will be closed Monday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day.
The trash schedule routes for the week of Nov. 11 will be as follows:
Monday will be picked up on Tuesday.
Tuesday will be picked up on Wednesday.
Thursday and Friday will remain the same.
Courthouse and landfill to be closed for Veterans Day
The Sevier County Courthouse and County Landfill will be closed Monday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day. The Courthouse and all solid waste locations will observe regular hours of operation on Tuesday, November 12.
The Sevier County Quorum Court meeting which would normally be held on Monday, November 11 is being postponed to 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 18.
Library Board to hold quarterly meeting
Tri-County Regional Library System Board will meet for their quarterly meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. at the Sevier County Library-De Queen Branch. Items to be discussed are the 2020 meeting dates and distribution of funding for January 2020.
County budget committee to meet
The Sevier County Quorum Court Budget Committee will meet at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday November 6, 2019. This meeting will be held at the Sevier County Courthouse Conference Room. This meeting is open to the public.
The Lockesburg Quilters and Crafters Guild 2019 Quilt Show
The Lockesburg Quilters and Crafters Guild 2019 Quilt Show will be on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Quilts will be on display at the Lockesburg Gymnasium on East Main Street (Hwy 371). There will be vendors, door prizes and refreshments.
To enter a quilted item to be displayed, drop it by the First Baptist Church in Lockesburg on Thursday, Nov. 7, between 6 and 8 p.m. or at the gym on Friday, Nov. 10, between 3 and 7 p.m. $3 per entry.
Categories include: hand quilted, machine pieced & quilted, children’s or baby, first quilt, retreat, applique, antique and miscellaneous. Admission to the show is free.
The Guild will accept donations at the show and uses the money to help local underprivileged children at Christmas time.

Lockesburg Angel Tree is accepting applications
Lockesburg Lions Club is accepting “Angel Tree” applications. Lockesburg area children only. Ages 17 and under only. Applications may be picked up at: Bank of Lockesburg, Nadine’s Café, Lockesburg Post Office, Lockesburg City Hall, and Lockesburg Grocery. Please return applications to the Bank of Lockesburg by Nov. 20.
Democratic Party filing times
A representative of the Sevier County Democratic Party will be accepting filings for justice of the peace, constable, Democratic committee member and county representative to a Special Democratic State Convention in the lobby of the Sevier County Courthouse during the following times:
Tuesday, Nov. 12 – 11 a.m. to noon
The filing period closes at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 12. JP and constable candidates must also file with the County Clerk’s Office before the noon deadline on Nov. 12.
Bank of Lockesburg to honor vets
Bank of Lockesburg will have a refreshment table set up Friday, Nov. 8, in honor of Veterans Day.
Bank of Lockesburg canned food drive
Bank of Lockesburg is conducting a canned food drive through the week of Thanksgiving.
Beaver’s Bend Folk Festival
Beaver’s Bend Folk Festival and Craft Show will be held from Nov. 8-10. Festival times are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free. The festival will feature turn of the century craft demonstrations, folk music, fall foliage, food booths, exhibits, a petting zoo, and many more fun activities. Monthly community lunch and events
Horatio First Assembly of God Church Joy Fellowship Ministries hosts a community lunch on the third Saturday of each month at the J.L. Walker Fellowship Hall from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome, there is no charge. Sevier County Historical Museum, 717 Walter J. Leeper Drive.
Regular entertainment events each month include a variety show on the third Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. features local talent and occasionally showcases special guests. There is a $2 charge to help cover the museum’s expenses.
Gospel singing on the third Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. at no charge and everyone is welcome to participate. The museum strives in this way to keep traditions alive. The museum welcomes interested musicians and performers.
Become a CASA volunteer
At this time a child in foster care needs your help. You will be the person who will listen when no other person can, you will advocate for the best interest of these children in court, at school, and in the community. You will help them find a safe permanent home. You can support a child who has been abused and/or neglected. Become a volunteer with CASA!
