Annual Snow-White reunion to be Oct. 13

The Snow-White family reunion will be held Saturday, Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Langley Volunteer Fire Department. Potluck meal will be served followed by bingo, and sharing of family pictures and memorabilia. For more information call 870-356-3091.


Budget committee to meet Friday, Oct. 12

There will be a meeting of the Sevier County Budget Committee on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the Sevier County Conference Room in the Sevier County Courthouse.


Chamber moves regular meeting date to Oct. 11

The De Queen/Sevier County Chamber of Commerce has moved the regularly scheduled board meeting to Thursday, Oct. 11, at 5:30 p.m. Meetings are held at the Chamber office in the Collin Raye Community Room, and members are welcomed to attend.

Gillham Homemakers to meet Friday, Oct. 12

The Gillham Extension Homemakers meeting will be held Friday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. until noon at the home of Judy Vann-Hamilton, 288 Tower Road in Gillham.

Topic of discussion will be on the Eastern Mediterranean Diet. Lunch will follow.

DES fourth graders to honor veterans with patriotic program

To honor those who have served our country, fourth graders at De Queen Elementary are inviting all veterans throughout the community to attend their patriotic program to be held in the De Queen High School auditorium on Thursday, Oct. 25. Students will be performing at 9:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m.


Election Commission to test equipment Oct. 12

There will be a meeting of the Sevier County Election Commission on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018 at 9 a.m. in the Sevier County Clerk’s Office in the Sevier County Courthouse. This meeting will be held to conduct Logic and Accuracy Testing of the election equipment and public test. Other items pertaining to the 2018 General Election may be discussed as necessary. This meeting is open to the public.

At this time a child in foster care needs your help. You will be the person who will listen when no other person can, you will advocate for the best interest of these children in court, at school, and in the community. You will help them find a safe permanent home. You can support a child who has been abused and/or neglected. Become a volunteer with CASA!

Volunteers needed to help clean up Gillham Cemetery in October

Volunteers are being sought to work any Saturday in October to help clean up the Gillham Cemetery. Items needed to help with the clean up include a power saw, pole saw or other tree trimming equipment; a tractor with a front-end loader or trailers for small brush and limb removal, along with volunteers to remove limbs and pick up sticks and raking and piling brush. Volunteers will need to bring rakes, trimmers, wheelbarrows or anything that can be used to help with the clean up.

Birth certificate, photo ID now required for marriage license

According to Debbie Akin, Sevier County Clerk, changes have been made in what will be accepted as proof of age for a marriage license. Beginning September 1, 2018 those applying for a marriage license will be required to provide their birth certificate and a photo ID.
