Gillham EHC to meet

The Gillham Homemakers Extension Club will meet at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14 in the home of Judy Vann-Hamilton at 288 Tower Road in Gillham. Topic of discussion will be “Understanding Personalities,” along with other business. Lunch will be provided. DHS Class of ‘54 reunion

The De Queen High School Class of 1954 reunion will be held October 5 at 11 a.m. at La Media Luna Restaurant in De Queen.

 

ADT to inspect bridge

According to Sevier County Judge Greg Ray, the Arkansas Department of Transportation will be conducting an inspection of the one-lane bridge on Johnson Bridge Road at Rolling Fork River Thursday, Sept. 20, weather permitting. The bridge closure should not take more than half the day.

 

Mt. Ida Cemetery Assoc. annual meeting Sept. 27

The Mt. Ida Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 at the cemetery pavilion. Anyone interested in the Mt. Ida Cemetery is invited to attend.

 

Holly Grove Baptist to celebrate 100 years with two-day event

Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its 100 year anniversary Saturday, Oct. 6 and Sunday, Oct. 7. Free concerts will be held each day with Tribute Quartet performing Saturday at 7 p.m. and Mercy River Boys performing Sunday at 10 a.m. There will be a potluck lunch on Sunday followed by local talent performing. The church is located at 950 Frachiseur Road in Grannis. All are welcome to attend.

 

Blood drive

LifeShare Blood Center has the following community drive is scheduled for Sept. 14 from 2-6 p.m. at Walmart, 926 E. Collin Raye Drive, De Queen.

Revival at De Queen First Assembly

De Queen First Assembly will be holding a revival with Evangelist Tim Todd, Sept. 16 at 6 p.m., and Sept. 17 and 18 at 7 p.m.

 

Hoo-Rah Festival needs vets for parade, acts for ‘USO’ show

The Hoo-Rah Festival committee is looking for veterans to be in the Veterans Parade on Oct. 6,  at 9 a.m. They are also looking for entries in a “mock” USO tour show, also on Oct. 6 at the Hoo-Rah Festival. The USO tour show entries can be any type of talent. They need to call Karen at 870-784-0039 if interested.

You can now purchase birth and death certificates at the Sevier County Health Unit at 304 N. 4th Street, De Queen, AR  71832.

Birth certificate, photo ID now required for marriage license

According to Debbie Akin, Sevier County Clerk, changes have been made in what will be accepted as proof of age for a marriage license. Beginning September 1, 2018 those applying for a marriage license will be required to provide their birth certificate and a photo ID.

 

Application process underway for SPSF

The fall semester application process of the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Sevier County is now underway. To apply go to aspsf.org and find “my county” for Sevier County and submit your application. Include all required forms and downloads before the Sept. 18 deadline.
