Donate blood at Christmas on the Square

Tis the season for giving blood drive. The LifeShare Bus will be at the Christmas on the Square, Saturday, Dec. 4 from 2-6:30 p.m. Receive a LifeShare t-shirt when you donate, while supplies last. 

Your blood donations will go to someone battling cancer, enduring sickle cell disease, undergoing surgery, or suffering through a traumatic accident. They are really needing blood donations and what better way to give back this season. 

City to be closed for holidays

The city of De Queen will be closed  Nov. 25 and 26 in observance of  the Thanksgiving holiday. 

The garbage schedule will be as follows: 

Monday and Tuesday will remain the same,

Thursday and Friday will be picked up on Wednesday. 

Lockesburg Lions Club toy drive

Lockesburg Lions Club will hold a toy drive  from Nov. 1-30. Collections will be taken at Southern Bancorp Bank and Zeb’s LLunch Box in Lockesburg. Toys will be donated to the Sevier County Angel Tree recipients.  

County holiday schedule

The Sevier County Courthouse, Landfill, and Solid Waste Stations will be closed Thursday, Nov. 25, and Friday, Nov. 26, for the Thanksgiving Holiday. The Landfill and Solid Waste Stations will resume normal operating hours on Saturday, Nov. 27, and the Courthouse will open again at 8 a.m., Monday, Nov. 29. 

De Queen Christmas parade seeks entries

De Queen Christmas Parade registration entry. This year’s theme is Christmas on the Tri-Lakes.

Categories include:

• Marching, school, church, community or other marching bands. 

• Commercial. 

• Other antique tractors and cars, motorcycles. 

• Walking unit, Dancing group, Dance groups, community/church groups, Equestrian (Horse Riding). 

• Other: ATVs-UTVs, boats, jet skies. 

• Float: Self-propelled trailer or trailer pulled by truck. 

Registration forms are available at the Sevier County Chamber of Commerce. Deadline is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1.  

Vendors sought for Christmas parade

Come join the Parade!  The Sevier County Chamber of Commerce is seeking vendors for Christmas on the Square. Spaces are $35 and game and activity booths are encouraged. Contact the Chamber (870-584-3225) for an application. 

The traditional Christmas parade this year will be on Dec. 4.  The theme for the De Queen Parade is “Christmas on the Tri-Lakes.” Santa will be appearing, the lighting of the courthouse will take place, a DJ will be performing, and vendors will be on the square.  

Vendors can set up between 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., the lighting of the courthouse will be at 5:30 p.m., and the Christmas parade will start at 6 p.m. 

Walker’s office sponsoring $2,500 shopping spree

Dr. Randy Walker’s office is offering a chance to win a $2,500 Sevier County Small Business shopping spree.  Schedule your wellness visit (870-584-3000) and you will be entered into the drawing.  The drawing will be held on Jan. 1, 2022.

Shop local and the breadsticks are on Simple Simon’s Pizza.!  Claim your free order of breadsticks when you present a receipt at Simple Simons of a minimum purchase of $25 with one of Sevier County’s local merchants. 

Chamber of Commerce seeks ambassadors

If you are looking for ways to help or support the Sevier County Chamber of Commerce or local businesses, then the the chamber’s Ambassador’s Program would be a great fit for you!

The program not only promotes awareness of chamber benefits and services, but also encourages existing members to become more involved.

As an ambassador, participants gain valuable business exposure and networking opportunities. Any current chamber member, in good standing, may apply.

Giving Tuesday to benefit UA Cossatot

Nov. 30 is Giving Tuesday and giving to the UA Cossatot Foundation can help local college students earn a college degree. Consider making a donation at www.ccua.edu/give or text Cossatot to 41444 

Pfizer Vaccines for ages 12 and up

De Queen Health and Wellness will be giving Pfizer shots on Thursdays. The FDA has approved these vaccines. You do not need to have an appointment between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. You will need to call 870-642-2400 and make an appointment if you would like to go during the hours of 2-5 p.m.

The Eastern Star will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge located at 201 N. 4th.

Singing at Ben Lomond First Baptist Church, downtown Ben Lomond. Starts at 6 p.m. Potluck. 

Saturday, Nov. 27

First Baptist Church of De Queen Food Closet is from 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Everyone is invited for coffee and doughnuts in the Fellowship Hall  8:30-9 a.m.

The Sevier County Stroke and Caregiver support group meets at 

Brookewood Nursing and Rehabilitation, Hwy. 70 W. De Queen from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets from 6 until 7 p.m. at 511 W. Stilwell, De Queen.

Dilworth Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 2517 Red Bridge Rd., holds Sunday Morning Service every Sunday. Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m. and morning worship service at 11:00 a.m.
