Hamburger dinner fundraiser for DQ boys basketball program

On Friday, Sept. 17, De Queen boys basketball program will be having a hamburger dinner fundraiser at Leopard Stadium. Dinner includes burgers, chips, dessert and a drink. Cost is $7 per meal. Pre-order by contacting a basketball player, Coach Lindly, or Coach Bradshaw. Pre-order sale ends Monday, Sept. 13. Walk-ups are always welcome.  

Pfizer Vaccines for ages 12 and up

De Queen Health and Wellness will be giving Pfizer shots on Thursdays. The FDA has approved these vaccines for anyone ages 12 and up. You do not need to have an appointment between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. You will need to call 870-642-2400 and make an appointment if you would like to go during the hours of 2-5 p.m.

 

Vendors sought for Hurrah Festival

Vendors are being sought for the 31st Annual Hurrah Festival (formerly Hoo-Rah Days), the primary fundraiser of the Sevier County Museum. This year’s theme will be “A Tribute to Sevier County Schools, Past & Present. The event will be held on Oct. 2 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum complex at Herman Dierks Park. 

Booths are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis. To reserve a booth, text Karen at 870-784-0039. 

Mt. Ida Cemetery meeting

The Mt. Ida Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting Thursday, Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Cemetery Pavillion. Anyone interested in the Mt. Ida Cemetery is encouraged to attend.  

Please bring a lawn chair. 

Trunk or Treat will replace Halloween on the Square

De Queen Trunk or Treat will be hosting their 3rd Annual Event at the Sports Plex, and it will be held on Saturday, Oct. 30, from 4 6 p.m.. There will be no Halloween on the Square this year.  

The biggest goal right now is candy donations!  The current candy drop locations are:

Meraki Hair Studio, Leopard Nutrition, De Queen Ford, Southern Girls Flower Shop, Ranch House Cafe, KDQN.

Community involvement is highly encouraged. Everyone’s help is needed to make this a success. Alicia Rivas is overseeing this event.  She asks that if you or your business wants to participate, sign-up your Car Theme or Game/Activity by visiting the Trunk or Treat Facebook page. 

Notice of Road Closures:

Johnson Bridge Road will be closed Thursday, Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for state inspection of Johnson Bridge. The northern end of Melrose Road will be closed beginning Monday, Sept. 13 and remain closed until further notice.

Friday, Sept. 17

Singing at Guernsey Baptist Church. Take Hwy. 67 south of Hope, approximately three miles turn right onto paved road to the Right County Road 353 at the old weight station. One mile to church. Potluck starts 6:30. 

Saturday, Sept. 18

Work day at Sweet Home Cemetery. Bring your mowers, weedeaters and rakes.

Horatio First Assembly of God Church Joy Fellowship Ministries hosts a community lunch on the third Saturday of each month. Lunch is served at the J.L. Walker Fellowship Hall from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join us for a good meal. There is no charge, just lots of food, joy and fellowship.

Sevier County Historical Museum at 717 Walter J. Leeper Drive, across the street from Pruett’s Grocery, plans regular entertainment events each month – a variety show on the third Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. and a gospel singing on the third Saturday beginning at 6 p.m.

The variety show features local talent and occasionally showcases special guests. There is a $2 charge to help cover the museum’s expenses.

There is no charge for the gospel singing, and anyone is welcome to participate. The museum strives in this way to keep traditions alive.

The museum welcomes interested musicians and performers.

building at CCCUA.

Tuesday, Sept. 21

Sevier County Fair Board meets at 7 p.m. at the fairgrounds.

Dilworth Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 2517 Red Bridge Rd., holds Sunday Morning Service every Sunday. Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m. and morning worship service at 11:00 a.m.
