The Gillham Volunteer Fire Department’s 4th Annual  KID’S DAY was all about how to escape from a house fire and what to do after you are out and safe!  

Jerri Ann Ybarra stated it is important to have a plan on where to meet, who to contact and to keep information handy addresses and phone numbers of family members.  She also said they had a smoke house for kids and parents to see what a dark smoke filled house is like.  

They got to move around in the house and figure out how to escape quickly. They also learned about CPR, what to do and the kids got to practice on manequins There were games to play and goody bags to take home.  

Smokey the Bear attended and everyone had pictures with him and handouts about fire safety.  About 150 showed up and enjoyed the fun.  

Tyson Foods at Grannis donated the food. Jayne Cole and Shana Newberrry helped to build the “smoke house” and served the food! Jamie Blackwell made some awesome fireplace cupcakes. Diamond Bank made a money donation. 

JerriAnn stated the Gillham Volunteer Fire Dept. meetings are the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.

School is getting ready to open and the Faith & Deliverence Center at 322 N 3rd St. in De Queen, will have Back To School Free Shoes Giveaway on Saturday Aug. 10 at 6  p.m.

The Gillham Library had the new Danielle Steel book, Turning Point, on the shelf and we will have Story Time and a Craft on Saturday Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. Come out and join us! 

 The Grannis Trail Riders found a set of keys while cleaning up the back side of the Grannis arena. They asked you to message them if they are your. They have a photo on their face book page. 

The Cossatot River School District announced School Picture Day for high school students, will once again be on the first day of school Wednesday Aug. 14. All other campuses will announce their school picture dates at a later time.

There was a big surprise party held at the Westline Holiness Church in De Queen on Saturday, Aug. 3 for Faron and Karen Ruth. They helped them to celebrate their 40th Wedding Anniversary. Congratulations! Karen stated she so loved her church family.
