Gillham’s 16-year-old resident, Travis Newberry, took first place with his Exotic Heifer and then Reserve Grand Champion at the Sevier County Fair & Livestock Show. This was Travis’ first time to show and he was very pleased to receive $550. He is the son of Lewis and Shana Newberry. Congratulations!
Norma Roden, longtime resident of Gillham, is back home after her two and half week in the Encompass Health Rehab Hospital of Texarkana, Texas. Norma said she is feeling much better on her new meds and is looking for a full recovery.
Serena Markham of Red Lick, Texas, celebrated her 80th birthday, Saturday, Aug. 10, with Sidney and Freda Kyles of Gillham, on the Cossatot River. There were 30 guest, all family members. Serena led a “Birthday Parade” in her honor on a golf cart, throwing candy and beads to all! The family enjoyed a picnic and birthday cake. Happy birthday Serena — I wish I could have been there!
Dianne Rosson of Gillham and a teacher at the UA Cossatot’s Adult Education Center, said it is now open for registration. Dianne stated if you know people out there who need to brush up on their skills, get a high school diploma or need some college preparation, come on in and register. She asked to let everyone know, there is no time like the present. You can do this!
The Gillham Library had their monthly Story Time and Craft Day last Saturday. As usual, with JerriAnn Ybarra and Janice Hobbs, our wonderful volunteers, it was a lively time making non-typical multicolor paper fans!
It was brought out how a lady, while attending “Balls” in the 15 to 1800s, were taught how to communicate by the position she held her fan! Also, for the readers of the Jack Reacher book series by author Lee Child, it will be made into a TV series in the near future.
The Rosson family of Gillham had a window A/C unit stolen from one of their properties. They are offering a $100 reward leading to the identity and conviction of the thieves. You can see a photo of the unit on Marc Leon Rosson’s Facebook page.
Donna Lyle of Wickes has informed us, Grannis resident Kenny Warren, has returned home after having cancer surgery, where they removed one of his kidneys. There has been an account set up for donations at the Union Bank.
On Monday, Aug. 12, Pastor Steven Chenonweth of the Almond Church will have surgery to remove his enlarged spleen. It will then be tested for lymphoma. All your prayers and thoughts are appreciated.
Mrs. Imogene Gentry Tidwell of Wickes, passed away on Friday, Aug. 9, in Nashville. She was 89 years old. Condolences to the Tidwell family.
School will begin this week. Be watchful for all the youngsters out and about. Hope all have a great new school year!
