The De Queen City Council, at their Nov. 20 meeting, approved a resolution authorizing the use of a $5,000 donation from Arvest Bank to the city’s fire department, to be used for the purchase of two new ventilation fans and three V-watches that will be used to detect the presence of electrical current.

According to Alderman Walter Smith, who is also the director of the Sevier County’s Office of Emergency Services, said that every town Arvest Bank has an office in, they make an annual donation to the local fire department to buy things that may be needed. He said that the watches were good for when storms hit the region and power lines are down.

“It was really appreciated,” he said of the donation.

The council voted 5-0 to adopt the resolution, with Alderman David Krantz absent.
