The Sevier County Block Party Committee announced today that after a season of covid, they have been given the go ahead to kick off their community block parties.
The committee has set the dates with local town government and/or fire departments. They are hosting a block party in each of the Sevier County communities to continue to foster a good relationship between local law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
Dates and locations are as follows:
• June 8, at 6 p.m. at Herman Dierks Park in De Queen
• June 29, at 6 p.m. at Horatio City Park
• July 13, at 6 p.m. at the Gillham Fire Department
• Aug. 3, at 6 p.m. at Lockesburg City Park
• Aug. 24, at 6 p.m. at Ben Lomond Community Building
• Sept. 14, at 6 p.m. at the DeQueen Sportsplex
If you are interested in being a part of this block party in any or all the venues, contact any of the numbers listed, which are as follows: Tonya Wolcott at 870-784-3849, Hattie Vance at 870-784-3921, Lynette Gilmore at 870-784-7969, Ramona Arenas at 870-784-5030, and Leslie Daniels at 870-584-9798.
Block parties will include a Bounce House, hot dogs, water and popcorn free of charge.
“We want this to be a free event so there will be nothing allowed to be sold at these events,” organizers said. “We encourage businesses, churches, and charitable organizations to get involved. This is your community and we are glad to be a part of it.”
The group will not be having a national night out this year in October, only the block parties throughout the summer. Organizers say this is a community event; not a political event. There will not be any political speeches or campaigning.
“We appreciate your service to our community and hope that you will be a part of these community block parties,” organizers said. “Please continue to watch our Facebook page for added updates as we receive them.”
