De Queen/Sevier County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Suzanne Babb has been spreading the message that the local chamber is not putting out another chamber-sponsored map this year in a warning to local merchants that are receiving calls from a company that claims to be associated with the chamber.
"Today I received a call from a member wondering if the De Queen/Sevier County Chamber of Commerce was putting out a map this year, because she had been contacted about buying ads," Babb said in an email sent out to all members. "She was allowed to believe it was being done through our local chamber."
Babb said that when asked the name of the company producing the map, the caller just gave a first name and phone number.
"This is not a chamber-sponsored map," Babb wrote.
She said that she contacted the person at the number and was refused the name of the company until asked repeatedly and was quickly transferred to a supervisor.
"Her supervisor also refused to name her company or on whose behalf they were soliciting ads," Babb said. "Certainly other entities can and do produce maps for our area, and they sell ads for them, but if they claim (or allow you to believe) it is being done through your local chamber of commerce, please contact me with specific details."
