A De Queen woman was killed in a traffic accident on Highway 259 south of Idabel, Okla. the morning of Sunday, May 12. Stephany Young, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene with head, arm and trunk internal injuries. 

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Young was driving a 1998 Honda Civic southbound on Highway 259 when she left the roadway to the left, overcorrected, then left the roadway to the right, striking a concrete culvert. Young was ejected approximately 17 feet from the vehicle.

Police say the condition of the driver at the time of the accident is pending investigation as is the cause of the collision. It is unknown if she was wearing a seatbelt and the airbags were deployed. 

The accident was investigated by Trooper Joe Jefferson of the McCurtain County Detachment of Troop E, assisted by McCurtain County Sheriff’s Department and the Idabel Fire Department.

Young was transported by White’s Funeral Home to their facility in Idabel.
