It was a rare occurrence: sunshine and warm temperatures for the Cub Relays. The first De Queen home meet of the season was held March 10 with the home town girls placing third and the boys fifth.
The top five scoring girls teams were:
Lake Hamilton with 172 points, Genoa Central 78, De Queen 63, Texarkana 60 and Nashville 53.
Belle Lindsey was a double winner. In the field events Lindsey cleared five feet for the first time to win the high jump 5-1. On the track Lindsey took the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 52.70.
Melissa Lopez took a second place with a throw of 82-1 in the discus.
Lindsey placed third in the 100 meter hurdles in 18.19.
Laura Figueroa ran 2:51.80 for fourth in the 800 meters. Lorel Morphew finished fourth in the pole vault and Kyla Ferguson fifth, both clearing 7-6.
Emily Garcia was sixth with 6:29.75 in the 1600 meter run. Lindsey was sixth with a distance of 32-3 in the triple jump.
Kyla Ferguson seventh in the 100 hurdles in 18.50 and eighth in the long jump with 14-0.
De Queen was fourth in the 4X400 relay in 4:55.10 with legs by Lindsey, Laura Mae Harp, Abby Morris and Dayton Forte.
The 4X800 squad of Nancy Martinez, Magaly Perez, Presli Young, and Jade Tatum placed eighth in 12:52.80.
Lindsey won the high point award with 30.25 points
The top five boys teams were: Magnolia with 130 points, Lake Hamilton 119, Prescott 86, Ashdown 79 and De Queen 71.
Donyea Whitmore had the Cubs’ only first place with his 44-9 effort in the shot put.
De Queen had three second places.
Luke Pearce cleared 9-6 in the pole vault. John Mc Rae threw 126-9 in the discus and
Donovan Ester ran 45.27 in the 300 hurdles.
Yandel Mendez placed third in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:14.91. Carlos Aguilar was fourth in 5:31.28. Gustavo Garcia took fourth with 2:20.10 in the 800.
Jacob Olade finished fifth in the shot with a distance of 38-0.
Angel Gonzalez finished seventh in the 400 meters with 58.35. Kaden Ahumada placed seventh in the 100 in 12.30. Donovan Ester was seventh in the 200 in 25.22.
Steven Peppers threw 107-2 for seventh in the discus. Jackson Van Winkle was seventh in the pole vault at 8-5. Manny Hernandez cleared 5-2 to place eighth in the high jump.
In the relays Gustavo Garcia, Edwin Baltazar, Yandle Mendez and Carlos Aguilar placed second with 9:22 in the 4X800.
The 4x400 was seventh with Gonzalez, Baltazar, Mendez and Garcia running 4:06.61.
