De Queen Basketball

Haworth, Okla. -- The Leopards split with the Lions Nov. 11 as De Queen opened senior high basketball season at Haworth, Okla.

Senior Girls

The Lady Leopards had too much of everything for their hosts to handle. De Queen took the senior girls game 62-25.

Allison Dockins scored 11 points in the first quarter and Belle Lindsey eight. De Queen stopped pressing when the score reached 15-0, but it was 31-0 when Laney Clampet hit a three for Haworth’s first points.

De Queen led 26-0 at the quarter, 42-15 at the half and 52-20 at the end of three.

Lindsey finished the game with 17 points, Dockins 11 and Emily Garcia 10.

Dayton Newberry scored seven, Giorgia Nava three, Hannah Morris three, Lorel Morphew three, Laura Mae Harp two and Penelope Sims two.

Clampet tallied a dozen points for Haworth. Deann McGough had 10 and Alyssa Farley two.

Senior Boys

The Lions came out hot. De Queen could never overcome the effects of Haworth’s fast start and fell 71-58.

The Lions scored 25 first period points, 12 by Amaurian Burress. Nathan Patterson was the first Leopard to find his scoring range and put in a pair of treys en route to eight points in the opening frame. Still, the Lions led 25-14 to start the second.

After that it was an even match. DHS scored44 points in the final three quarters and HHS 46. It was 41-27 at the half and 59-41 at the end of the third. The smallest gap came midway of the fourth period. Haworth was up 63-51 when Patterson made a lay-up. After a steal by Monroe Barnett, Manny Hernandez made a pair of free throws to get the Leopards within 63-55.

Patterson led the Leopard scoring with 25 points. Hernandez had 15 and Cooper Young 12. Sam Graham scored four and Barnett one.

De Queen committed 14 fouls and converted six of 15 free throws.

For Haworth Zamion Threadgill scored 26 and Burress 25. The Lions made seven of 20 at the line and had 15 fouls.
