VANDERVOORT — The De Queen junior high basketball teams began play with a split at Cossatot River Nov. 12.

Junior Girls

De Queen won the girls game 18-15. After the first quarter ended tied at 3-3, the visitors moved ahead 7-5 by the half. A 5-2 advantage in the third put De Queen up by 12-7 to start the fourth quarter.

Dayton Forte had eight points for De Queen and Madison Whitmore six. Laura Mae Harp had two. Payton Blanton and Kenley Ward each added one.

De Queen had nine fouls and made six of 19 free throws.

For CR Richardson scored eight points, Williams four, Engles two and Treadwell one. Cossatot had 14 fouls and made five of 10 free throws.

Junior Boys

Cossatot River took a 12-2 first quarter lead and went on to win the boys contest 31-14. Quarter scores were 20-4 and 29-10.

S. Graham had 10 points for the Cubs. Trenton Matthews and Ulyces Coto two each. The Cubs committed 13 fouls and missed both free throw attempts.

The Eagles had three fouls and hit five of nine at the line. Scoring were: B. Atchley nine, K. Bailey eight, D. Lowry six, E. Johnson four and B. Ralls three.
