Esmeralda Balderas of De Queen takes a shot against Malvern. De Queen senior girls finished the conference season with a perfect record. 


BAUXITE — The De Queen senior girls completed a perfect conference season with a 46-42 win at Bauxite Feb. 8 in a game that was not as close as the final score.

The Lady Leopards led 11-9 to end the opening period, but an 18-11 run in the second expanded the lead to nine at 29-20 by the half. A 15-12 edge in the third put De Queen up by double digits, 44-32 to start the fourth.

Ashlyn Chambers led the Lady Leopard scoring with 14 points, including four treys. Kennedy Winship scored six points. Abby Dykes, Ashley Dykes, Josie Burke and Maddie Martin each contributed five. Tatyana Tramble scored three.

De Queen had 12 fouls and made 14 of 28 foul shots.

Bauxite’s L. Mangnum scored 13 points. The Miners had 17 fouls and went seven of nine at the line.

The win gave the Lady Leopards a 12-0 conference record for the season. Overall they are 23-2. They will play in the 7AAAA tournament at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, against the winner of Monday’s Mena - Malvern contest.
