Pottsville -- The Leopard cross country teams took a first and a second at Pottsville Oct. 2.

The De Queen boys team demolished the field. The Leopards scored 23 points. St. Joseph of Conway had 50, Quitman 75, Clarksville 101 and Morrilton 129.

Four Leopards finished in the top 10. Johnny Sanchez took second with a time of 18:06.0 over the 3-mile course, 188 yards shorter than the usual 5K.

Miguel Diaz was third in 18:13.5, Anthony Sanchez fifth in 18:29.4 and Manuel Alvarez ninth 19:11.2

Jampiere Flores ran 19:15.8 for 11th and Enrique Zapata 19:58.3 for 18th.

Edward Sosa took 23rd in 20:24.7 and Adolpho Barreto 25th in 20:25.5.

Armondo Hernandez was 31st in 20:45.0, Anthony Guerrero 32nd in 20:57.1, Ezequiel Gonzalez 33rd in 21:05.0, Caesar Cortez 36th in 21:18.6 and Daniel Marrufo 37th in 21:29.2. 

Leo Martinez ran 22:32.1 for 44th, Charles Wood 23:25.6 for 47th and Gerardo Monroy 23:26.0 for 48th.

Jesus Campos was 52nd in 23:32.3, Cash Buzbee 62nd in 26:00.3 and Allen Hong 65th in 26:33.8.

Senior Girls

The Lady Leopards were second with 45 points to Quitman's 42 in an unusual finish. Trailing were Clarksville with 51 points and Bigelow with 103, but runners from those two schools crossed the line at the right spots to aid Quitman.

De Queen's average time for the five scoring runners was 22:47 to 23:01 for Quitman. Quitman's fifth finisher was over two minutes behind De Queen's fifth, but scored only five points more.

For De Queen Heidy Galvan timed 21:39.3 to place third. A pack of Lady Leopards then arrived. Joselin Sanchez was ninth in 22:50.7, Jacklyn Sanchez 10th in 23:02.8, Xochitl Florez 11th in 23:07.9, Kenya Martinez 12th in 23:12.3 and Abigail Barker 13th in 23:37.5.

Marlen Perez ran 25:10.3 for 18th and Natalie Martinez 25:12.4 for 19th.

Catherine Ousse was 22nd in 25:28.0, Wendy Martinez 26th in 26:25.8, Ariana Ortiz 27th in 26:28.3 and Liliana Hernandez 29th in 26:44.3.

Sara Victoriano timed 26:58.9 for 32nd, Ashley Contreras 28:07.6 for 37th, Jazmin Sanchez 28:52.0 for 38th and Alexandra Salinas 29:39.8 for 39th.

Yasmelin Gonzalez finished 41st in 30:54.2, Janae Tirado 42nd in 31:03.0, Leslie Garcia 45th in 31:50.1, Yazmin Castro 46th in 32:27.5 and Hailie Alvarez 48th in 32:52.3.
