Sulphur Springs, Tex. — The De Queen girls finished second and the boys third at the Tim Menke Invitational cross country meet hosted by North Hopkins High School in the season opener for the Leopards.


The Lady Leopards total of 118 points was second behind Paris North Lamar’s 75. Como-Pickton had 138 to place third in the 20 team girls race.

Heidy Galvan clocked 14:11.52 on the 3200 meter course to place 13th.

Xochitl Florez finished in 14:47.32 for 23rd.

Joselin Sanchez was 28th in 14:56.16 .

Abigail Barker ran 15:11.91 for 32nd with Marlen Perez 33rd in 15:13.40.

Jacklyn Sanchez finished 37th in 15:20.67 and Kenya Martinez 29th in 15:23.89.


In the 19 team boys field, the Leopards finished with 116 points. Commerce won with 47, followed by Paris with 92.

Anthony Sanchez was the first Leopard across the line with a time of 18:03.75 over the 5K course to place fifth.

Johnny Sanchez was close behind, placing  sixth in 18:14.21.

Jampiere Flores ran 19:31.04 for 33rd place. Manuel Alvarez was 54th in 20:25.21 and Cesar Cortez 56th in 20:28.75.

Enrique Zapata timed 20:45.42 for 64th place and Aldopho Barretto 22:57.77 for 113th.
