ARKADELPHIA — Nothing worked for the De Queen junior girls who lost to Mena in the 7AAAA tournament 31-25 Feb. 4.
The game was decided in the first half, and things went bad for De Queen from the start. The officials had no problem with Mena’s hands on defense that held De Queen to a single basket in the first quarter and two in the second. De Queen trailed 11-2 at the end of the first and 17-6 at the half.
An 8-0 De Queen run to start the second half cut the lead to 17-15. The closest De Queen could get was 24-23 when Belle Lindsey hit a three pointer with 3:01 in the game.
Lindsey scored nine points, six in the fourth quarter, for De Queen. Jera Cotten had seven. Emma Vance added four, Hannah Phillips three and Allison Dockins two.
De Queen had 15 fouls and shot 12 free throws, six in the fourth period, and made four of them.
Mena had 13 fouls and made five of 14 at the line. Mena’s Fairless had 20 points.
