MURFREESBORO — Horatio downed Murfreesboro 28-6 in junior high action Sept. 6.
The Lions struck early. With 1:25 left in the first quarter Nick Marsden threw to Anthony Ramirez for an 11 yard touchdown. Marsden was stopped short on the try for two but Horatio led 6-0 and never lost the lead.
Horatio upped the gap with 7:27 to go in the first half. Nick Marsden passed to Landon Willis for TD from 21 yards out. Again Marsden was stopped on the conversion.
The Lions scored again quickly. With 5:18 remaining in the first half, Marsden went in from three yards out. This time Landon Willis carried for the two point conversion to up the score to 20-0.
Horatio got in the end zone once more before the half ended. With :30 on the clock, Willis pulled in another scoring pass from Marsden. This one covered 20 yards and raised the score to 26-0.
Murfreesboro avoided being shut out with a touchdown with five minutes left in the game.
Horatio had 181 yards of total offense to 52 for Murfreesboro and 12 first downs to Murfreesboro’s seven.
Anthony Ramirez and Landon Rowe each had five tackles for the Lions. Carlos San Juan had three stops.
Tristan Mendoza made two and a half, Alexis Ramirez two, Dalton Dowell and Ethan Wolcott one and one half.
