Horatio’s Rylee VanVoast maneuvers through the Haworth defense.

In a battle of HHS Lions against HHS Lions, Horatio won two of three against the visitors from Haworth, Okla.

The Nov. 18 slate began with Horatio slipping by the visitors 40-39 in junior boys play.

Daniel Gideon hit two early 3-points that helped the home team to an 11-3 first period lead. Despite a visitor comeback Horatio still led 21-17 at the half. Two more treys by Gideon in the third helped Horatio expand the gap to 33-26 to start the fourth.

Zach Treadwell scored six to lead a fourth quarter Haworth surge that came up a point short.

Gideon led all scorers with16 points for Horatio. Ryland Pickett had seven, Cason Lyon five, Riley Williamson four, Konner Bailey four, Colton White two and Logan Petesher two.

Horatio took the senior girls game 63-34. Quarter scores were 21-9, 37-19 and 51-21.

The leading scorers for Horatio were Emma Ray with 18 points and Teresa Chavez with 17.

Zada Caldwell and Deann McGough each had 10 for Haworth.

Shane Threadgill scored 34 points to lead the Haworth senior boys to a 60-40 victory.

Haworth opened up a 16-7 first period lead. Horatio cut the gap to 22-15 before the visitors scored the last five points of the half to lead 27-15 at intermission. The split was 44-35 at the close of the third period.

Trey Mason had 15 points for Horatio and Finn Vance six.
