The De Queen girls made short work of visiting Malvern in the opening round of the 7AAAA tournament Feb. 13. The final was 60-19. It was the end of an awful season for Malvern who finished at the bottom of the league.
With five seconds left in the first quarter, De Queen inbounded the ball under the Malvern basket. Two passes later, Jera Cotten unleashed a buzzer beater from a step southwest of the Leopard’s front paws. The long 3-pointer put the Lady Leopards up 16-5 with Cotten accounting for 12 points.
They led 30-11 at the half and 51-17 at the end of the third.
Belle Lindsey scored 26 points for De Queen with only one trey. Cotten finished the game with 16 points.
Allison Dockins had eight, Ems Garcia four, Madison Runnels three, Elise Dean two and Lorel Morphew one.
De Queen committed 15 fouls and made six of 12 free throws.
Malvern had 15 infractions and made eight of 24 at the line. Cayla Spenser scored six points and Victoria Jergenson five for MHS.
