MAGNOLIA – Monday was not De Queen’s day at finals of the much delayed 4A South regional softball tournament. The Lady Leopards fell to Bauxite 7-3 in a game where little went right.
De Queen took an early lead with two runs in the first. With the bases loaded Madison Runnels hit a grounder to the third baseman whose throw to the plate was too late and Lexy Taylor scored.
Kinlee Runnels singled to right to score Tatyana Tramble. Sydney Hill, trying to score from second, was out at the plate. Madison Runnels was caught between second and third and tagged out in a run-down for a double play.
Bauxite took the lead on a three run homer by Taylor Sledd in the top of the second.
A two run homer by Riley Larkin in the third made the score 5-2.
Bauxite added an unearned run in the fourth and another in the fifth.
The final De Queen run came in the bottom of the seventh when Carlee Helms singled and was driven in by Hannah Phillips.
De Queen - Magnolia
The Lady Leopards downed the host school in Sunday’s semi-final 4-2. Three of De Queen’s runs came in the first inning.
Singles by Bailey Ward, Tatyanna Tramble and Sydney Hill loaded the bases. Madison Runnels’ sacrifice fly to left scored Ward.
Kinlee Runnels then hit a fly to center which was misplayed. Tramble and Hill scored on the error.
The fourth run came in the third inning. Madison Runnels doubled to left then scored on a single to center by Kinlee Runnels.
Magnolia got a run in the fifth and another in the seventh.
Taylor gave up four hits and two walks with 14 strikeouts.
De Queen - Warren
De Queen opened the tournament on Friday with a 3-0 win over Warren.
Lexy Taylor struck out 17 batters in the seven inning game.
Tatyanna Tramble’s third inning homer with Taylor on base sealed the win.
The Lady Leopards took the lead in their first at-bat. Bailey Ward led off with a walk. Taylor singled. Ward went to third when Tramble’s grounder resulted in a forced out at second then scored on an error.
