DIERKS —The Lady Lions won the conference softball tournament by beating Murfreesboro 6-3 in the April 26 final.
Murfreesboro scored a run in the top of the first inning. Horatio took the lead with two in the bottom half and led the rest of the way. The Lady Lions added a pair of runs in the third inning. MHS got two in the fourth, but scored no more. HHS iced the game with another pair of runs in the sixth.
Six of Horatio’s 10 hits were for extra bases. LeAnn Beasley hit a home run and a triple. Laiken Emerson and Madison Olvey each tripled as well. Kaylee Morgan and Reagan Batty each doubled.
Maddie Rivas hit two singles. Grace Harris and Morgan each added one.
Beasley drove in two runs. Olvey, Batty, Morgan and Rivas had one RBI each.
Beasley pitched the full seven innings, yielding nine hits and two walks.
Horatio - Mount Ida
LeAnn Beasley pitched a perfect game as Horatio downed Mount Ida 3-0 in the semi-finals.
Beasley fanned four batters and also scored the only run needed.
After reaching base on a walk in the third inning, Beasley stole second, then moved to third on a sacrifice fly by Kelsie Easlon. A single by Madison Olvey drove in the run.
Mount Ida was still trailing by only one run in the bottom of the fifth when Maddie Rivas doubled to right field then scored on a double by Olvey.
Horatio got its final run in the sixth. Laiken Emerson beat out an infield single. A ground out by Lindsi Cornish moved the runner to second. Emerson stole the final two bases.
