HOT SPRINGS — Autumn weather arrived a day early. According to the calendar it was the last day of summer, but with the temperature around 80 degrees and a cloudy sky the conditions were fall-like and conducive for fast times at Hot Springs Lakeside’s cross country meet at the Essex Country Club snuggled between East Malvern Ave. and Lake Catherine.
The class 6A host school won three divisions with De Queen second. In the junior boys, it was the other way around.
With a 1, 2 finish and three runners in the top 10, the De Queen junior boys nipped Lakeside 43-46 in the six team meet.
Rodrigo Garcia and Randy Rodriquez were both clocked at 8:34 over the 2400 meter course with Rodriquez getting first by inches.
Jackrys Munoz finished seventh with a time of 9:30. Clint Tunnel was 15th with 9:58.
Larry Labra ran 10:22 for 20th place, Edgar Villamil 10:38 for 23 and Jose Rojas 10:52 for 29th.
Daniel Perez was 31st in 10:54, Caden Lindly 33rd in 10:57, Nathan Jacobo 35th in 11:27, Christopher Salgado 36th in 11:32 and Rusty Bermeo 49th in 12:33.
De Queen’s senior boys were second with 40 points behind Lakeside’s 23. Third place Arkadelphia had 107 followed by four other schools.
Four Leopards ran under 18 minutes. Johnny Sanchez finished fourth with 17:15, Gustavo Garcia fifth with 17:19, Juan Maldinado sixth with 17:23 and Carlos Aguilar 12th with 17:56.
Manuel Soto ran 19:33 for 17th and Cesar Cortes 19:37 for 18th.
William Peppers was 27th in 20:26 and Jonathan Ortiz 32nd in 20:48.
Grayson Miller placed 46th with 22:38, Saul Felipe 49th with 23:14 and Jordan Daley 50th with 23:22.
In the senior girls division which had four teams, De Queen had 61 points to Lakeside’s 20.
Adriana Montiel led the Lady Leopards with a time of 23:50 for 12th place.
Marlen Perez clocked 24:03 for 15th, Jacklyn Sanchez 24:05 for 16th, Laura Figueroa 24:07 for 17th and Jamielete Flores 24:14 for 19th.
Wendy Martinez was 21st in 24:42, Litzy Hernandez 22nd in 24:51, Alexa Monroy 23rd in 24:59, Wendy Victoriano 24thin 25:05 and Presli Young 27th in 25:47.
Jaide Tatum finished 32nd with 26:32, Emily Garcia 33rd 26:55, Arlaetthe Gonzalez 36th 29:29, Yazmin Castro 42nd 32:59, Martha Jaramillo 43rd 36:40 and Esmina Contreras 44th 37:18.
Jaden Valdez finished third with a time of 10:58 over the 2400 meter course with Alyssa Neal fifth in 11:16.
Megan Buendia ran 11:56 for 15 and Aiylene Hernandez 12:42 for 24th.
Lesli Sanchez was 30th in 12:59 and Marlene Tellez 35th 13:27.
Haylee Mendoza time 14:42 for 43rd, Geraldine Rafael 14:49 for 46th, Jocelyn Luna 14:56 for 48th, Mareli Melendez 15:28 for 50th and Monica Macias 15:40 for 52nd.
