Amber Salazar takes a cut in the first round of the Bad Company Co-ed Fourth of July Softball Tournament at the De Queen Sportsplex.

A quick thundershower that brought down the temperature just before the first game was a good omen for the first Bad Company Co-ed Fourth of July Softball Tournament at De Queen’s Sportsplex.

The first game was played before the annual fireworks display. After the fireworks, the tournament resumed and concluded at 10 a.m., July 14.

Eleven teams from as far away as Louisiana competed. The tournament champion was ENVY. The Hit Squad took the runner-up spot with the Coed Legends third.

The tournament was a fund raiser for the local Bad Company softball team’s trip to the World Series which will be July 15-22 in Gulf Shores, Ala. The event raised $4,000 which surpassed the goal according to spokeswoman Sissy Liggin.

“We want to thank everyone for their support. We had a great turnout,” she said. “We are going to try to make this an annual event.”
